This is the short version, and it is also the whole version. We are a small team running a joke CV generator. We are not in the data business and we would rather hold as little of yours as possible.

What we store

  • Your email address, so you can sign in and so your CVs and credits belong to somebody.
  • What you typed about yourself, and the CVs generated from it.
  • Your credit balance and a record of what was spent on what, so we can answer you if a charge looks wrong.
  • A photo, only if you upload one. Location data is stripped from it on the way in.
  • A LinkedIn profile, only if you paste one. We never fetch it ourselves and we never read a profile from a link. It is stripped of page furniture, used to write the CV, and stored with it. Delete the CV and it goes too.
  • Basic usage counts, through self-hosted analytics. No third party advertising tags, no cross-site tracking, no cookie banner to dismiss, because there is nothing to consent to.

What we do not do

We do not sell your data. We do not share it with advertisers. We do not build a profile of you, and we do not email you unless you ticked the box asking us to, in which case it is rare and you can stop it in one click.

Who else sees it

Two kinds of company touch your data, and only as much as they need to do their job:

  • The AI provider that writes the CV receives your name and what you wrote about yourself. If you upload a photo and ask for it to be restyled, the image provider receives that photo.
  • The payment provider, if you buy credits. Your card details go to them directly. We never see or store them.

Everything else runs on our own hardware. There is no analytics vendor and no marketing platform in the middle.

Photos

A photo is always optional and every design works without one. If you do upload one, it is resized, stripped of location data, and stored against your CV. Delete the CV and the photo goes with it.

Please do not upload photos of other people who have not agreed to be in a parody CV. It is the one thing we ask.

Public CVs

A generated CV gets a link that anybody can open, which is the entire point of the product. It is unlisted rather than secret: hard to guess, but not protected. Do not put anything in a CV that you would mind a stranger reading.

You can unpublish a CV at any time, and anyone can report one. A reported CV can be taken down without notice.

Getting rid of it

Delete a CV and it is gone. Ask us to delete your account and we remove the account, the CVs, the photos and the balance. Email [email protected] and we will do it. We do not ask why and we do not try to talk you out of it.

Depending on where you live you may also have the right to a copy of what we hold, to have it corrected, or to object to us holding it. Same address, same answer.

Children

HireMeNot is not intended for anybody under 16, and we do not knowingly keep data about them.

Changes

If this page changes in a way that matters, we will say so on the site rather than quietly editing the date at the top.
