Terms

Last updated 16 August 2026

By using HireMeNot you agree to what is on this page. It is short on purpose. Most of it amounts to: this is a joke generator, treat it like one, and do not use it to be unpleasant to somebody.

What this is

HireMeNot generates parody résumés. Everything it writes is invented. The job titles, the companies, the achievements and the quotes are fiction, including the ones that happen to sound plausible.

It is not a real CV builder, it is not careers advice, and it should not be sent to an employer by anybody hoping to be employed.

Your account

You need an email address you can actually reach. One account per person. You are responsible for what happens under your account, so do not hand your sign-in link to somebody else.

Credits

  • Credits are one balance. Some are granted, some are bought, and they cover everything that happens on the site.
  • Styled portraits and downloading a file also need a paid account. Any top up unlocks those permanently, and spending the credits does not re-lock them.
  • Credits do not expire. They are not money, and they are not transferable.
  • We only charge for a CV that actually arrives. If a generation fails, you keep the credit.
  • If a purchase goes wrong, email us. Credits cost a couple of dollars and we are not going to argue with you about it.

What you must not do

The short list, and we do enforce it:

  • Do not upload a photo of somebody who has not agreed to appear in a parody CV.
  • Paste your own LinkedIn profile, not somebody else’s.
  • Do not use somebody’s real name to make a CV designed to harass, defame or humiliate them.
  • Nothing sexual involving anybody, nothing hateful about who somebody is, nothing illegal.
  • Do not pass a generated CV off as a genuine record of somebody’s employment.
  • Do not scrape the site, or automate it to generate in bulk.

Every public CV has a report link. Reported CVs can be taken down without notice, and accounts used for the above can be closed without a refund.

The line at the bottom

Every CV carries a line saying where it came from. On a shared link it stays there, on every account, permanently. That line is the only thing we ask in return for the rest of the product being free, and removing it from a shared link is not something you can buy.

On a file you download, you can pay to take it off. That is the only place it is optional.

Who owns what

The CV we generate for you is yours. Use it, print it, post it, put it on a colleague’s desk.

The site, the templates, the artwork and the name remain ours. Generating a CV does not give you a licence to the template it came in.

By making a CV public you let us show it on the site, for example on the landing page, until you unpublish it.

No promises

The service is provided as it is. We do not promise it will be available, that generation will succeed, or that any particular CV will be funny. Humour is not a warrantable quality.

To the extent the law allows, our liability is limited to what you have actually paid us, which for most people is nothing.

Ending it

You can stop at any time and ask us to delete your account. We can close an account that breaks the rules above. If we close yours for a reason other than those rules, we will refund credits you paid for and have not used.

Changes

If these terms change materially we will say so on the site. Continuing to use HireMeNot after that means you accept the new version.
